HMGC and the Community
Located directly within the Hawkers Market on Limuru Road, the girls
center is surrounded by members of the community in which it caters
too. The HMGC program strives to create teachers and leaders for
the community. Through their actions, the students at the center
educate the community in creating low cost sources of energy, proper
cooking techniques, and nutrition and health education.
Through economic
independence, the students are able to provide for their families
by creating an easier work load for the parents, enabling siblings
the chance for higher education, and improving hygiene and nutrition.
Community members
are also given an opportunity to transfer their knowledge to the
girls of HMGC. The teachers at the girls center are dedicated volunteers
to the organizations and provide their time and knowledge to improve
their community. While more practiced teachers get a chance to share
their knowledge, new teachers have an opportunity to gain experience
for career enhancement.
After completing
the one year training program, the students at HMGC have an opportunity
to seek a career, start a business or further their education.
The HMGC is
committed to providing young women with opportunities to open doors.
